If anyone keeps up with what I do on a personal basis or not, I never made it to North Carolina like my last post led you to believe. The wind blew in the other direction and I landed somewhere else. From the time that I had decided to go to North Carolina, to the time I should have left was a little more than a month. The choice to travel was like any other. uproot my entire life and just pick up somewhere else. I happen to be an extremely spontaneous creature despite my habits of over-planning and closely inspecting details of the small, fine details. I made the decision to stick around the northeast region of New England much quicker than I made the decision to leave. Unexpectedly, my choice to stay was completely irrelevant to why I would have stayed in the first place. The few days I spent haggling with my emotions and decisions of a life path lead to an unavoidable desire to just go somewhere, anywhere, anyways. I just knew if I did go anywhere I'd make a pit stop to see my mom and family no matter how far out of the way it would be. While I stuck around, I'd figure that I'd just go right back to my original plan for life-living, building my Tiny House... Weeks after I decided not to move, I finally put in my time for a vacation after putting off many opportunities to visit my family- because of work or other affairs. I quickly decided that it was now or never, to commit to my 1,200 mile travel across the states to see my mom. I knew I wouldn't spend my entire vacation time with my mom from the start. Working nights and weekends really can hurt and in some cases kill your social life, so I had to find a way to cram all sorts of other things in the two weeks of time off that I had. Fast forward three months, I still find myself internalizing and excruciating mental-tunnel-vision about moving. 'Maybe not to North Carolina' were my thoughts, but it has been years since I've moved far enough out of state that a daily trip wouldn't be viable. Much before my expected vacation time, was when I really started to get serious about how I was going to kill this urge to leave. I cut back my time at work and eventually took myself off the schedule. Taking advantage of all this free time at my disposal, I planned the rest of my summer to be exciting as I could make it seeing it had been a decade since I experienced a summer worth remembering. The Fourth Of July was coming, and quickly. Let me just say that's going to stick for ever. My last Fourth Of July in Massachusetts I spent soaking the summer sun and city life of the Back Bay on the Charles river and front row very perfect seats for the Boston Pops Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular. It was like no other experience, like no other Fourth Of July, with my closest friends and fireworks that made the river glow of purples, greens and reds, with a matching glow from the water on faces of the thousands of people whose eyes were... Days later, I come eye-to-eye with a tiny dalmatian-colored pitbull named Zena, who after multiple attempts, never found her forever home. there was just one little problem. Gram grew much attached to a poodle once long ago, named Fefe who went on to another life and Gram never really let it go. She swore the rest of her life she'd not let that happen again, so as a house rule, no dogs allowed. The night I brought Zena home was intense, with Gram, my almost 20 year old cat and my sleeping grandfather who would hear the cries of a pawbaby who had been re-homed many times to unfamiliar places with unfamiliar people. Puppy training is hard. Rescue puppy training is MUCH harder, and I hadn't learned this until Zena came home with me that night. Gram was very mad at me for a few days, then finally my vacation had arrived and I was extremely ready to have some one-on-one time with myself. That weekend was spent in the deep woods of central Maine, as what I could recollect now as my first camping trip. I know I had been camping before, but long before I could make out any distinct memories of it during my early childhood. My camping trip rushed into a 15 hour drive to central United States with my boyfriend and puppy. Thankfully, Zena slept for most of the drive. And yes, I ended up with a speeding ticket in New York. coming into a work zone.
