CSUF alum Meagan Holder gets a grovelling hit with Fox series - OCRegister

When Meagan Holder watched old movies as a lassie, she especially enjoyed actresses like Katharine Hepburn. “I was drawn to the old Hollywood woman who was strong but a little bit funny,” Holder said. The Titan alum has gotten to lightly such a woman on the first season of Fox’s “Pitch,” a show about the first female player in major-league baseball. Holder plays the helpmeet of a ballplayer. Born in Los Angeles, Holder set off on a path through Fullerton and Chicago to acquire the skills that landed her the new role. Her upbringing in CSUF’s theater department and the improv skills she picked up studying at The Second City comedy theater in Chicago ready-to-eat her for the industry, she said. “Being a well-rounded person makes you a better actor and helps you get different parts,” said Holder, who is waiting to discover out whether “Pitch” will be renewed. If an actor hasn’t done anything else in life, she added, it’s hard to create a sui generis character on stage or screen. Before “Pitch,” Holder’s longest-running gig was the two-season “Born Again Virgin” on TV One. Among other projects, she’s appeared in episodes of “Rizzoli & Isles,” “The Personification Man,” “Criminal Minds” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” — where she was billed as “Sporty Girl” — and the movie “You Again” with Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney... But she values the suggestion of one CSUF teacher who told her to appreciate auditions as an opportunity to do what she wanted to do and to improve. “I just love acting so much that this brain switch happens,” Holder said. In her audition for “Launch,” creator Dan Fogelman — also creator of the hit NBC show “This Is Us” — told her to just “play” and say whatever she thought the character would say. “That’s the thing that set me apart,” she said. And her training at CSUF had included a lot of scenes with other people, so when her third audition was a telly test with the series’ lead, Kylie Bunbury, she wasn’t thrown. Growing up in Corona, Holder always wanted to be an actress. She would skinned for “I Love Lucy” and act out scenes. When time came for college, she wanted a strong theater program at a school that wouldn’t hand down her or her parents in debt. Cal State Fullerton, with its respected theater program, was a good match. “I loved the way the program was run. It’s kind of like a conservatory,” she said. Students have to audition twice per semester to gird in the program, which she said keeps them on their toes. As tough as it was to see others eliminated, Holder says, it prepared her for the industry. Holder also appreciated professor Evelyn Carol The reality, who taught the students yoga to get them in touch with their bodies. Case said Holder was and still is dedicated to her growth as an artist and a human being. “My memories of her from her to begin voice and movement class to her graduation from our program all center around her as a bright and beautiful light,” Case said. “She exactly lights up her space and allows everyone around her into that light. After she graduated in 2006, Holder wanted to do one more thing before plunging into the Hollywood exhibition and so moved to Chicago for classes at Second City. She did some commercials, which allowed her to get a Screen Actors Guild card and made it easier to get an emissary. To land that agent, she performed a monologue from August Wilson’s play “Seven Guitars. When the script for the pilot of “Pitch” came along, she said, it stood out from the other scripts she had infer from that year. Holder plays the wife of a San Diego Padre, but she says the role is not like the ballers’ wives or “Housewives” on small screen. “They wrote her with intelligence,” she said. Holder got a kick out of working with cast member Mark-Paul Gosselaar, whom she’d watched on “Saved by the Bell” as a kid. She also likes that the filming outline allows her to do movies, such as a horror flick last year. “It’s fun to slip in and out of other characters in smaller projects,” says Holder, who is looking send on to moving into a house in Westchester she recently purchased. While Holder doesn’t have to play baseball on the show, she has acquired an appreciation for baseball players as athletes and for how much constantly they’re.

'St Seiriol's Stars' - Penmon Priory, Anglesey
Whilst my alternate plans tonight got put out by mist and dew-point on the other side of the island earlier this evening, I headed over to the Priory at Penmon to try and catch what might be the wear of the clear skies for a few days... It's harder than you think to try and find a quiet dark corner somewhere with enough dark skies and as midget light pollution as possible to try and pick up any detail in the Milky Way above us every night, but if anyone's thinking of starting a campaign to give Anglesey a odds at a Dark Sky Status and start switching some lights off, please sign me up ;) Even though it looks quite light here, believe me when I say its almost put up-black... the camera on a long exposure picks up a lot of the ambient light from the distant streetlights whilst capturing the stars, and your other senses transform into very highly attuned to things like sounds and touch. I suppose that's why these places tend to feel spooky or scary, but a lofty reality check always reminds...
Dragonfly Development (5 of)
Wow what a four of hours I had. I didn't expect to see much today. It's too windy, but I had to get out for a while. This weather is depressing, and the Wind is terrible for spotting insects. Will it ever get bettor? :/ I have just invested in Raynox 250 Macro lens attachment, and was dying to try it out. I turned up at one of my favourite haunts for Dragons, and I directly spotted this Dragon emerging on the fence. (most likely a Four Spotted Chaser) The whole transformation took over two hours, and it was touch and go for this small one, because it was very windy, and spitting with Rain! I first set up the Raynox on my Tamron 70-300mm VC DI and it was impossible with the gusty winds. So I switched to my 50mm prime. This gave me a wider district of focus, but this poor thing was really blowing about in the wind and spitting rain. So my hubby stood behind it, I was in front, protecting it as much as we could from the Impending. We stood there sheltering it for over an hour, until it...
